Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Migration Health) and the direct supervision of Senior Programme Assistant (MHU) and administrative supervision of the relevant Head of Sub Office, the incumbent will be expected to carry out Her/his duties in accordance with the strictest ethical standards, building and maintaining partnerships with Community elders, Government, international organizations, and non-governmental agencies, and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities.

 

Job Requirements

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

    1. Ensure that all cases in need of basic and emergency medical assistance are provided with adequate health services.
    2. Provides basic medical screening, prescriptions for basic/essential medicines and makes referrals for chronic, emergency, or advanced care need cases.
    3. Ensuring that medical protocols and prescriptions are in line with diagnosis made and are followed appropriately by health personnel.
    1. Ensuring that universal infection control and precaution and hygiene standards are in place and maintained.
    2. Maintains regular contact with Directorate of Public Health staff and other local health stakeholders in close coordination with project health assistant.
    3. Ensure proper documentation of patient information and daily entry into appropriate databases is maintained.
    4. Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on the progress of field activities and challenges encountered, as well as summary information on patients screened, served, and referred.
    5. Maintains a regular medical supply stock record and communicates the need for replenishment with the MHU pharmacy team.
    6. Accompany and support the admission of emergency medical cases from received at the border or IOM transit center to the appropriate treatment center.
    7. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and collaborative relationships with clients, partners, and health professionals.
  1. Assist Migration Health National Program Officer in project monitoring and identifying priority health needs and other activities including but not limited to regular disease outbreak monitoring and reporting, take part in health awareness campaign, etc.
  2. Take part in coordination meetings, workshops, training events and conferences at health cluster/provincial level.
  3. Oversee and assist the health facility's various technical staff members, including the midwife, nurses, immunization staff, community mobilizers, MHPSS counselors, and nutrition.
  4. Give emergency referral cases technical support to LTA/public hospitals and provide all necessary paperwork, including financial records
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

University degree in Medicine or related field from an accredited academic institution and passed exit exam with Valid license to practice with one year experience.

Experience

  • Clinical experience
  • Experience in related medical field will be advantageous.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting is advantageous.

Skills:

  • Ability to move or lift patients.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A patient and compassionate disposition.

Languages

  • For all Applicants, fluency in English and French is required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.
  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
